It's ...Read more When we stayed in Tbilisi there wasn't much in the way of mid-priced accommodation and the budget accommodation wasn't what we wanted in this city. Our guide book suggested Hotel Lile as a possibility and we turned up without a reservation. It's pretty easy to find, a ten minute walk from the centre of Tbilisi, just on the other side of the river. It's also near the Avlabari Metro station which means it's connected to the train station and main bus stations.

There is a food market and a small supermarket near the metro station and a small shop and off licence a few doors down the road. There are bars and restaurants nearby if you don't want to go into town.

The hotel is above a small cafe; this is where breakfast is served if you choose to include it. We didn't so I can't comment on that. You go through the entrance to the hotel and climb the stairs to the first floor where the reception is. The interior was somewhat dark but clean and well maintained. This is a small hotel with only a handful of rooms. Our room was one level up from reception but we still had to endure the blaring television that was being watched by the night watchman, a surly man who pretended not to understand when we asked him to turn it down so we could sleep.

The room was dark even with the main light and both lamps on. However it was clean and well-maintained like the public areas. It looked recently renovated. There was a bed, a small wardrobe and bedside tables. A desk was taken up by the large television which had Georgian, Russian and a few English language news channels. All the furniture was new and in good condition. We were pleasantly suprised having come down from Batumi where we had stayed in possibly the city's worst accommodation.

We asked about a laundry and were informed that the wife of the cafe owner did laundry. It was priced per item, depending on the size of the item. We wre instructed to bring the laundry to reception and this lady was called. To my horror, she tipped all our dirty laundry (and it was dirty!!) on to the desk and started making different heaps, throwing my knickers around with complete abandon. A total was reached, I was so humiliated I would have agreed to anything. It was perhaps a bit on the steep side but by this point we had amassed to much laundry to do it ourselves and waste time when we could be sightseeing. What's more, we needed to wash larger items like jeans which presented more of a problem in a hotel washbasin.It costs around £6.00 for all of the laundry and it was returned looking reasonably but not fully clean 24 hours later.

Our room had a small but adequate en suite bathroom with a small shower, toilet and washbasin. There were no problems with hot water and the bathroom was also new and pristine.

The price we paid was in the region of £15 per night for two people which given the standard, the location and that we were in a capital city I think is quite reasonable. There are more glitzy places to stay in Tbilisi, sure, but this was exactly what we needed. Basically you are paying for a room, there are no more facilities but this is an ideal location and is clean and safe.

It was a shame that it was noisy at night; thankfully this man only worked on the first of our two nights so the second was more pleasant. Close
